Our Journey Towards Responsible Tourism

Beginning Our Roadmap Towards Net Zero

In April 2025, Smailing Tour DMC officially launched our sustainability initiative, Roadmap Towards Net Zero, as part of our commitment towards responsible tourism and sustainable travel in Indonesia.

As a travel company operating in Indonesia and with offices in Bali, Jakarta, Labuan Bajo, and Yogyakarta, we believe tourism should create more than memorable journeys. Tourism should also create positive impacts for local communities, culture, and the environment.

Through this initiative, we began introducing more sustainable practices into our operations, including the gradual use of electric vehicles and the creation of eco experience tours designed to support local communities and encourage more meaningful travel experiences.

For us, sustainability is not simply a trend, but a long-term responsibility towards protecting the destinations that we love and helping ensure they can continue to thrive for future generations.

One Year Update Towards Responsible Tourism

One year after launching our Roadmap Towards Net Zero initiative, we are proud to share the progress of our sustainability journey.

Up until today, our electric vehicle operations have collectively recorded a total distance of 150,467 kilometers across our services and guest experiences.

Based on the average emissions produced by conventional gasoline vehicles, we estimate that this transition has helped avoid approximately 18 tons of CO₂ emissions from transportation activities.

While these numbers are important, this achievement represents much more than operational statistics.

It represents:

  • A growing commitment towards sustainable tourism
  • Guests choosing more responsible travel experiences
  • Operational changes that contribute towards reducing environmental impact
  • Collaboration between our team, partners, suppliers, and local communities

At the same time, we are also encouraged by the positive response towards our eco experience tours in Bali, where guests are invited to explore destinations while also supporting local culture, communities, and more environmentally conscious tourism activities.

As awareness towards sustainable travel continues to grow, we believe tourism can play an important role in preserving destinations while still creating meaningful experiences for travelers.

Continuing Our Actions Towards a More Sustainable Future

At Smailing Tour DMC, our journey towards responsible tourism is only beginning. Moving forward, we hope to continue increasing our sustainability efforts and creating more positive impact through our operations and travel experiences.

One of our goals is to expand the use of electric vehicles across our offices in Bali, Jakarta, Labuan Bajo, and Yogyakarta as part of our long term effort to reduce transportation related carbon emissions.

We also hope to continue developing eco experience programs that not only provide memorable journeys for our guests, but also contribute positively towards local communities, cultural preservation, and environmental sustainability. As a company within the tourism industry, we aspire to become part of a larger movement that encourages more sustainable practices in travel and hospitality.

Most importantly, our hope is simple: To help preserve the destinations we love today, so they can continue to be experienced and appreciated by future generations.

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to all of our partners, suppliers, communities, clients, and team members who continue to support this journey. Because creating a more sustainable future for tourism is not something we can achieve alone it is a shared journey that we build together.
